History of the hotel
With the building of the station in the second half 19. Century developed on the left side of the river Reuss and the city, new hotel accomodation.
In the years 1866 - 1867 in the sump area at that time, the stately Hotel Du Lac with its far visible structure of dome was constructed.
It was the inhabitant of Zurich Johann Villiger Spillmann, who built the west wing at the Seidenhofstrasse between the Trassee at that time (today Pilatusstrasse) and the Reuss first. This part outlasted then also the actual hotel Du Lac, which ignored 1944 to the telephone management Luzern, as hotel Flora.
Later the brother of the widow Villiger, Johann Spillmann, took over the management of the hotel.During that time, the hotel increased to the side of the Reuss, at the same time experienced the west wing 1874 a further development, and only 1887 the central building with the impressive dome was built. 1897 in a last stage of the construction the east wing was built.
Under the last general manager of the hotel Du Lac, Mr. Hermann Burkard Spillmann, who has been the president for some years of the international "Hotelierverein", on the west side of the "Pilatusstrasse" the garden restaurant Flora with a sun roof was built . The Floragarten was not only a in demand entertainment place for the guests and inhabitants of Lucerne, but found also use as exhibition and fair center.
After the implementation of the first Du Lac houses in the years 1866/67 from decade to decade new houses and resounding were built - all of Dépendancen of the Du Lac enterprise. The name Flora was already used around the turn of the century, but the hotel indicated it only from the year 1948. At that time the hotel was torn off Du Lac and in its place was built the new switchboard of the city of Lucerne.
The photographer Jean Schneider took over the majority of the Du Lac shares. The society maintained this name, although it possessed from now on only Flora enterprises. The Enterprise remained in the western part, which became hotel Flora at that time , as also in the Floragarten and in the cinema Flora. In 1977 the building was taken over by a general-purpose building, whose building lady was the Swiss banking company.
At the same location 1979 the today's hotel Flora were built.
Operated since January 2007 the hotel Flora of the Althoff Hotels & Residences , Mr Althoff took over the possession of the hotel in the summer 2009.
Since January 2010, the Hotel Flora is successfully led now under the 4-star- business-brand by Mr. Althoff, the Ameron Collection - Smart Business hotel.
